BRIARDS WHO NEED HOMES
IN AUSTRALIA

UPDATE 28/8/09

Thank you to all who enquired re Humphrey - he now has a fabulous new home

This is Humphrey's story.  He comes from Tiahart Kennels in NSW.  He's desexed and we have his papers and microchip transfer.  He's approx 12 mths old.  He was sold into a home where there was already a male Bearded Collie six months older than him.  Unfortunately as the two dogs have matured jealousy has started to surface in the interactions relating to the family's wife/mother.  Humphrey is bigger than the Beardie (he's quite a large Briard) and he's starting to assert dominance over the older dog.

The family loves him to bits and so for his protection have decided to rehome him as nobody wants him to be involved in any situation which might have a tragic outcome.  He's been great with the family's kids and with all their visitors and visiting children.  The family has no cats or small dogs, just the two young male dogs and an elderly female medium sized dog.

Although Humphrey comes from NSW, his family is currently living in Brisbane so last weekend they took Humphrey out to Cacharel .  Anne has assessed him this week and confirms there is no problem with people even though she's really pushed him.  She also says he is very very clean, has manners and is obedient.  She mentions that he has a fairly high prey drive so we don't want him go to a home with small pets, but Anne feels he would be fine with a female dog or on his own.  For obvious reasons we won't put him back into a home with another male dog.  I guess I should mention too that he's got a cottonwool coat so he's going to take a lot of grooming, but clipping is always a great alternative in these circumstances.

'Team Briard'  is made up of a group of dedicated Australian Breeders (Cacharel, Kaasha, Glenine, Trilby, Narbrisse) and Briard owners. These breeders & owners are NEVER 'too busy' or 'too full' to help, house, foster or transport ANY Briard in need.  And a huge thank you to our dedicated owners who work a weekly 'rescue check' roster. This site would like to publicly thank : Tania, Kim, Page, Rei, Colleen, Lea, Wendy, Susie, Barbara & Christina. These owners & breeders are the backbone of 'Team Briard' and will NEVER turn down ANY Briard in need - regardless of breeding or ownership or age.

To the many people who have open their hearts and homes to rescue Briards - we, AND THE BRIARDS thank you

"if you don't or can't rescue - don't breed"

This current year (2008 -9) Australian Briard rescue has rehomed 7 , 8 , 9,  10 Briards.

Congratulations Team Briard!!!

It is an unfortunate fact of life that this service is needed, it is not an easy job and can be heartbreaking for all parties. However, it can also be very rewarding when the results are positive.

Help a dog in need!!!

If you feel you have the time and the patience to give a home to an older Briard or rescue Briard please email rescue.

Great news - this site / page has received an award for the work we do for Briards in need!!

Contact your breeder - most breeders WANT to know where their dogs are and most will have in their sales contract a clause stating that they MUST be the first contact for rehoming. This is a good thing, it is the sign of a responsible breeder. Most breeders will screen prospective adoptive homes, again this is important, as we all know that a Briard is not the dog for everyone.

Don't feel embarrassed to admit that you can no longer keep your Briard. Put the dog above your embarrassment and contact your breeder - they will only want to help. There are many reasons why people have to give up their dogs and it is best to get in contact with people who know the breed rather than turning the dog over to a shelter - where it 's end may not be very happy.

If, for some reason you cannot contact your breeder or you have contacted your breeder and they cannot help, please send an email to rescue@briard.com.au Include in the email the approximate age of the dog, sex, your location, if the dog has been neutered or is entire, and pertinent things about its background such as; is the dog used to children, other pets including cats, inside or outside dog, housetrained and anything else that you feel may be important. If you like, you can also send a small photo. Once we have all this information, we can then post on this page and screen prospective owners for you. We always want the best for the dog and have been very successful rehoming dogs with this service.

Happy Endings . .

A MESSAGE FROM BRIOCHE:-
It is going to be fun living here. "Me muver" and aunt just dote on me . They took me all over the district yesterday and bought lots of goodies for me -particularly CARROTS and my dried food, and harness etc for the car.
Mungo ( the 2 year old ginger cat) is the only problem but I have learned to just squeal at him if he starts that deep throat business and that confuses everything and "me muver" and aunt  just fly to my protection. i have spied the older cat ,Cubby, but she just disappears under the house.
Thank you for bringing me here. I am trying to be very good and I never make a sound in the night.
Well -- that is all for now. Sending a special lick and a head rub to you.
Love from Brioche  xxxx00

Brioche - now 'Bruno'

We would like to send a few photos of our briard 'Tess' to say how much we appreciated her old owners (who loved her dearly ,but their lifestyle changed and had to give her up) getting in touch with her breeder (Irena Schneider)and asking Irena to relocate her to a new family. We were so thrilled when only the day before we were asking Irena what were the chances of a briard coming up in the briard rescue scheme, and we were notified the next day. She is a beautiful girl, we have a wonderful time together, taking her where ever we can, these photos give you an idea of the life she has now , surfing, her 2nd birthday, sailing, and to earn her keep helping out at our jewellery store.

Thanks again for your 'briard rescue' scheme

  Leanne & Don Gray
