Immortalise your favourite Briard in a personalised cross stitch pattern.

The pattern is created from a photograph of your dog and generally concentrates on the face and head to bring out your dog's unique personality.

The process involves the use of a number of computer programs to simplify the image, reduce the number of colours and convert it to a cross stitch pattern.  Finally, the pattern is manually reviewed and the number of colours required is reduced further.

A typical pattern is 168 x 168 stitches which converts to a finished piece about 12 x 12 inches (30 x 30 cm) on 14 count cloth and requires between 10-20 colours (coded for DMC Threads).

The patterns are delivered by email as a PDF file so there are no delivery cost. You can then support your local craft store by purchasing the cloth and thread through them or you may be able to use surplus supplies from your previous projects.

The quality of the original photograph impacts directly on the final cross stitch pattern so here are some tips for selecting a good photo.

1. Select a high resolution image.  The bigger the image the better to bring out the dog's features.  This is especially true of pictures that show the whole dog since the process will concentrate on the dog's face.

2. Try not to have anything in the picture such as branches or excessive shadows 'cut' across the dog, especially the face and head.

3. Generally the simpler the background the better.  Most of the patterns will require the background to be removed in any case but the easier the dog stands out from the background, the better the resulting pattern.

4. It is difficult to get a good pattern with more than one dog in the photo, especially if the dogs are different colours, ie, a black Briard and a fawn Briard.  It is best to assume that 1 dog = 1 pattern although it may be possible to create one pattern for each dog and then combine them at an addition cost (email dct66@bigpond.com for details).

Patterns cost A$20.00 which includes a A$5.00 donation to the Rescue Fund.

Payments can be made through direct bank deposit in Australian Dollars (preferred) or via PayPal.

Send your photo and/or any questions to David at david@briard.com.au

NOTE: This is a cross stitch pattern only, supplied as a PDF file via email.  It is NOT a kit and does not include cloth or thread to complete the pattern.
